What is Difference between branded and unbranded Google Ads Campaigns?

Keywords that do not refer to the brand name or any part of it (including possible typos) are considered non-brand keywords. Some keywords that have a brand name in the phrase but are not unique to one brand or domain will be considered non-branded.

Example of branded search terms: Charter Internet, Xfinity, Charter Communication, Spectrum TV, Windstream Internet, etc.

Example of a non-branded search term: Cable TV provider, Internet in my area, Satellite provider.

Google Advertising Policy and Carrier Policy:

In our case, we deal with Google Ads and Carrier. Both are different companies and their policies are different. Google will not limit you from bidding on branded keywords,

Google lifted the ban on bidding on competitors’ branded keywords back in 2008, and since then it’s been perfectly acceptable to bid against your competitor’s brand as long as you don’t include their trademarked name in your ad text. It’s a bit of a gray area, but perfectly fair in Google’s eyes.

Here’s a real example of a campaign that uses a branded keyword and doesn’t break the rule.

How ? Simple, if you are a Spectrum only authorized dealer you are not responsible for Frontier and vice versa.

Google has already won a court case regarding permission to bid on branded keywords, provided you don’t use their trademark and name in the ad text of the cube.
